Sponsorship and Exhibition Opportunities

On behalf of the Conference Organising Committee and the IFA Executive, I extend a warm welcome to you to partner
and exhibit at the IFA’s Biennial Conference to be held in the beautiful tropical city of Cairns in Far North Queensland from 14 - 17 August 2017.

The theme chosen for the conference is “Tropical Forestry: Innovation and Change in the Asia Pacific Region ". This theme taps into IFA’s broadened vision and reach promoted by the Foresters without Borders Initiative and recognises the
rich history of Australian Foresters who have contributed to the development of the professional practice of Forestry in South East Asia and the Pacific. There are few countries in our region that have not been influenced by forestry leaders who have trained in Australia or Australian Foresters who have worked in the region. The conference location and focus also calls us to focus on Northern Australian Development and how and why forestry should be part of development initiatives that are canvassed in the 2015 Northern Australia White Paper.

As emphasised at the 2015 ANZIF Conference, forests and trees provide many benefits for the community: water,
biodiversity conservation, scenic values, agricultural production, timber and firewood, land and soil conservation and jobs in timber production or tourism. Foresters provide the professional capacity to manage trees across public and
private ownerships. The conference theme challenges us to apply this professional capacity to these diverse values of tropical forests and trees in the context of the needs of Northern Australia and our neighbouring Australasian and Pacific Island countries. This requires a broadened perspective about how Australian Foresters can make a difference in the
tropics, in northern Australia and in the current practice of Forestry in the region. The sessions for the conference are designed to present and discuss these challenges and provide a platform to launch new horizons for our forestry
profession to contribute to and influence the practice of forest management in Australasia and the Pacific.
